Concrete cancer

 

Concrete cancer develops when the inside steel reinforcing is exposed to water and starts to rust. The surrounding concrete cracks and breaks away .

 

Once the failure reaches a certain point, the concrete structure becomes structurally unsafe. 

The repair begins with reinstating the strength of the steel by either replacement or repair, then cosmetically repairing the concrete to finish. The resulting repair is then stronger than when is was orginally built.
